Getting there

Getting to Lucca, Tuscany

Monday 14 October— the start of the retreat…

We will meet you between 11.00 and 11.30 am outside the Lucca Railway Station. If you are staying in Lucca the night before we suggest the Hotel Rex which is adjacent to the railway station.

Trains are cheap in Italy and only need to be booked in peak season or if you are taking one of the fast intercity trains – but even they can be booked at the station on the day using the ticket machine which is in English and easy to use. Most only take credit/debit cards rather than cash. Passengers need to validate the ticket at a machine adjacent to the ticket purchase machine or on platforms or else they can be fined.

If you are coming from elsewhere on that morning you should check the trains on www.trenitalia.comwhich is also available in English.

Please note that due to the small local roads (and hence the subsequent use of small vehicles) we must limit you to one suitcase each – and even that must be medium size, as it will be difficult to fit into vehicles.

The nearest airport is Pisa. There is a people mover driverless train at the airport which takes passengers to Pisa Centrale. From there you will change and take a train to Lucca which is only about 19 kms away.  There is a lift at the end of each platform so you don’t have to carry suitcases up and down stairs.

Saturday 26 October…at the end of the retreat

You will have breakfast then be driven to Lucca, where the retreat concludes.
